FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:

Common Questions You May Have.

How do you know if you have a hearing loss?

You may notice that speech is not very clear anymore, or that people mumble. Sometimes you may prefer sound to be louder in order to hear and understand better. You may ask for people to repeat what they said, and this may occur more often when around background noise.

How does a hearing aid work?

Hearing aids are programmed by your hearing care professional based on your hearing test results. They are set to amplify sounds at the pitches where you have hearing loss. Keeping in mind that amplification is an aid to your hearing, and that we truly hear with our brain.

Do I qualify for any financial assistance towards my hearing aid(s)?

If you are a resident of Alberta, you may be eligible for funding towards hearing aids from Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL). You may be eligible to apply to Veterans Affairs Canada or a Worker Compensation Board for noise-induced hearing losses.

Can hearing aids help my tinnitus?

Amplification can help to reduce the effects of tinnitus, but each person’s experience is different. Sound maskers may be recommended as well if you have tinnitus. When people have tinnitus and hearing loss, hearing aid amplification is often the best treatment method.

What if I purchased my hearing aid(s) from a different clinic?

At the Calgary Ear Centre we are happy to service hearing aids that you purchased from another clinic, if we are able to. Certain hearing clinics sell proprietary devices that can only be programmed at the clinic they were purchased. We do have a fee for servicing out-of-clinic hearing aids and would be happy to consult with you to find the best solution.

What kind of manufacture warranty do my hearing aid(s) have?

Hearing aids purchased from our clinic have a certain warranty period from the manufacture of your selected device. This covers for repair work that cannot be completed at our clinic and for one-time loss (or damage beyond repair) replacement from the manufacturer. Loss and damage warranty does have a fee per hearing aid if used.
